Salon Ngan Ha

I walked into Salon Ngan Ha on a humid afternoon mostly to escape the Ben Thanh crowds, and ended up staying almost an hour longer than planned. It is a small Korean-style men's barbershop tucked just off the main District 1 grid, and the first thing I noticed was how calm it felt after the chaos of the street outside. The barber barely spoke English, but he understood exactly what I wanted from two photos on my phone, and the cut was genuinely one of the cleaner fades I have had in Saigon.

What to expect

This is a grooming experience, not a quick chop-and-go. You sit down, they take their time figuring out your hair, and the whole thing moves at an unhurried pace. Expect a wash, the cut itself, a hot-towel shave around the neckline, and a short head and shoulder massage at the end that I did not ask for but happily accepted.

If you are used to Western salons, the level of attention here feels almost old-fashioned in a good way. Nobody rushes you out, and the finishing touches, like the styling and the final mirror check from every angle, are clearly part of the craft.

The space and service

The shop is compact, maybe four chairs, with clean lines and that understated Korean aesthetic. It is well lit, the tools are kept tidy, and it never felt crowded even when a couple of regulars wandered in.

Service was patient and friendly. The language gap was real but never a problem, since the barber relied on photos and gestures, and he checked in constantly to make sure the length and shape were right before committing.

Location & getting there

Salon Ngan Ha sits in District 1 within easy walking distance of Ben Thanh Market, so if you are staying anywhere central you can simply stroll over. A Grab bike will get you there in a few minutes from most of the backpacker area, and there are plenty of cafes nearby if you arrive early and want to wait out a busy stretch.
